The Concise History of American Social Policy: Unpacking 17 Crucial Issues Through U.S. History is the first textbook in a three-volume series that offers readers an incisive exploration into the interplay between social events and policymaking in the United States. From the transformative impacts of landmark legislation to the stark realities of judicial decisions, this volume illuminates the nation's policy history through a vivid narrative lens. Distilling complex political narratives into a comprehensible format, the book delivers a clear depiction of the societal forces that have shaped significant legislative turns and pivotal social events. Structured with clarity and precision, the text progresses through 17 thematic chapters that address critical issues related to American social policy, including abortion, affirmative action, civil rights, education, guns, healthcare, human trafficking, mental health, poverty, terrorism, and more. Written to encourage a deeper engagement with the political and social contexts that influence policymaking and our society today, The Concise History of American Social Policy: Unpacking 17 Crucial Issues Through U.S. History is an exemplary resource for courses and programs in social work, sociology, political science, and American history.
