Synopsis

Arthur Dent, was minister of South Shooberry, a village near to Southend, in Essex, but persecuted by Bishop Aylmer for nonconformity. About the year 1584 he endured many trouble from this prelate, for refusing to wear the surplice, and omitting the sign of the cross in baptism. With several of his persecuted brethren, many of whom were suspended and in prison. This caused Dent to petition the queen of England, seeking true justice for his brothers rather than the vengeance commonly imposed by the state on those who refused to bow the knee to anyone other than Christ Jesus.

Nearly everyone knows something about John Bunyan. His Pilgrim's Progress is beloved by countless saints around the world. Upon his return home from service in the King’s army, Bunyan’s wife gave his two books to help steer him to Christ. Arthur Dent’s The Plain Man’s Pathway to Heaven was one of these and turned out to be reported that Pathway was Bunyan’s second favorite book, after the Bible. This book presents excellent treatment of man’s natural condition and myriad sinful ways that attend to him; the outworking of sin in the lives of people and nations; salvation and the marks and hindrances thereof; judgment; and ends with three prayers.
