This wonderful book, the 6th in the series Looking Unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of Our Faith, written about 1650 by Isaac Ambrose, one of the great Christian divines, and made accessible to today's readers by William Kritlow, takes a heart and head guided look at this magnificent event: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and those 40 days after His resurrection. When Isaac answers the self-formulated question, "Why did Jesus rise?" One of the answers he gives is this: "That He might powerfully convince or confound His adversaries. They knew He’d said He’d rise on the 3rd day and they wanted to do everything they could to prevent that. They took great care to assure themselves that the huge rock was in place, they set a military watch, then they sealed the tomb. But He would not be stopped. Jesus, the Son of God, the Messiah, our Lord and Savior, broke open the gates of death, and made the gates of brass to fly to bits." No one believed it had actually happened that Sunday Morning when Mary Magdalene and the others went to the tomb. They were sure someone had taken the body, and all they wanted to know was where it was laid. But then Jesus appeared, first to Mary, then to the disciples, then to others. Read this beautiful account with its age old meanings, meanings that grab hold of us even today, meanings that spin and form our world for His purposes today and will till the end.
