Synopsis

This book is the follow-up to" Laughing Gas-the Tales of an Anaesthetist" which was published in April 2021. This new title is written in a very similar style and describes more humorous stories and comedic situations which I collected during my career as an anaesthetist in the NHS in Scotland. The first chapter describes various funnies during my time as a medical student at the University of Glasgow Medical School from 1972-1977. The subsequent part of the book is devoted to the multitude of would be stand-up comedians, otherwise known as colleagues, patients and hospital visitors, whom I encountered during my career as a "gasman." There was certainly no shortage of humour in any of the hospitals where I found employment, from my early years in Law Hospital, Carluke, and through my training in anaesthesia in various Glasgow hospitals. Fortunately, the fun continued unabated after my appointment to a Consultant post in Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1985. Since my retirement from clinical practice in 2013, I have spent a significant amount of time attempting to recall at least the majority of the amusing tales which I either witnessed directly, or heard about, during my thirty six years in the NHS. Since I was not sensible enough to note down all the amusing tales at the time, there is no doubt that many have now been permanently lost. However, that's life and I do hope you will enjoy those tales which I have remembered.
