Synopsis

Ella and Theo have been dating for several years when Ella finds out that she is pregnant. Both are juniors at Della High School. They rely on the insight from friends, family, and a high school guidance counselor to navigate through some complex decisions while enjoying their high school years.

Two prevalent views on abortion currently exist, Pro-Life and Pro-Choice. There are several others, though less conventional. Pro-Counsel asks those who are considering abortion to talk with a counselor before completing the abortion procedure. Women’s Choice leaves the entire abortion decision with the pregnant woman while the to-be-father covers the expenses of birth, abortion, or adoption. Mandated Choice often applies to couples in tightly knit community groups where the group makes decisions for the couple based on adherence to strict traditions and views.

Destiny was written as a novel for junior and senior high school ELA classrooms. Its intent is to help teenagers respond to views on marriage and abortion. With the high rate of divorces in the United States, there is a need for teenagers and young adults to develop lasting relationships even in the toughest of times and situations. By talking about this in a classroom or working with a counselor, they are able to express their needs and confide in classmates and professionals for assistance and help.
