Synopsis

Eugene Peterson translates the Good News this way: "The Word tented among us," and "moved into the neighborhood."

I say it this way: With the Baby Jesus, we experience Grace in the manger, the very presence of God in our midst. This is Good News. Walk with me through the season of Advent, using these 25 devotions and prayers to help start your day with a glimpse of Grace, or finish it with the promise that God rests with you.

I have a fascination with God’s Grace. I have come to see Grace as flesh and bone, body and blood. When I think of God’s ultimate love, I think of Jesus Christ. As I see it, God’s Grace and Jesus Christ are one in the same.

Throughout this devotional, I will mention, “Grace in the Manger,” a number of times. This is probably a good thing, since that is the title of the book. God’s Grace is seen and experienced as Jesus in the Manger. I wish I could take full credit for this understanding, but that wouldn’t be truthful. You see, Eugene Peterson, in his translation of scripture he called, “The Message,” opened my eyes and more importantly my heart to a deeper understanding of God’s Grace!

Peterson had a way of turning a phrase in such a way that it breathed new life into my understanding of God, and more importantly, God’s interaction with you and me. I hope after reading this devotional, you will find new ways of seeing the babe in the manger. ~ John
