Synopsis

This is a historical novel based on twenty years research into the The 71st Fraser Highland Regiment
that fought in the American Revolutionary War, 1775-1784.

The Duchess of Gordon in Fochabers raises seventy recruits for her brother Captain Hamilton Maxwell of Monreith.
The story outlines the journey of James Rattray, an eighteen-year old gardener at Gordon Castle, Fochabers, who decides to enlist with the promise of land at the end of the war. His girlfriend Mary Grant agrees to go with him, but does not tell her parents.
Their ship is captured at Boston, without even having entered the war, and they spent two years separated in captivity.
Would they be tempted to settle in Massachusetts where they could live comfortably, or would they both endure and survive the hardships of war.
