Synopsis

Adopted as a child, Maurice Wilson, while researching his true identity, is found dead in the Corn Hill village churchyard. But what Detective Inspector Mike Reid thinks is just a case of a drunk choking to death on his own vomit turns out to be a case of murder. As the days unfold, a titled man comes under suspicion. The man, a pier of the realm, is the heir to a fortune. Moreover, the dead man is found to have links to that family. The remains of a young girl are found after a sinkhole appears in nearby woodlands. This is a twenty-year-old cold case. Detective Chief Inspector Carter, close to retirement and once associated with the case, now sets out to bring closure to the girl's family.
