How Prayer Actually Works by Pastor John A. Harris, Ph.D.
Change your Tomorrow! Unlock the true mechanics of prayer with this foundational guide to Biblical truth. *How Prayer Actually Works* delves deep into Scripture to reveal how prayer functions in the life of a believer, offering clear and practical answers to the questions that often surround this essential spiritual practice. Prayer, as an integral part of worship, strengthens the rich relationship between a child of God and their Heavenly Father.
Bringing together over 35 years of Biblical study and his background as a trained Nuclear Engineer, Pastor John Harris, Ph.D., demystifies prayer. As a University Professor for 33 years, Pastor Harris has a gift for simplifying complex concepts. He applies that same analytical approach to God’s Word, revealing prayer as a dispensational truth. By rightly dividing the Scriptures, he removes confusion and leads readers to new spiritual insights, offering profound understandings of our relationship with God and prayer in an accessible, engaging way.
This book is the first in Pastor Harris' new series, *Everyday Wisdom for the Child of God.* Readers will find answers to questions such as:
- What is prayer, and how should I pray? What are intercessions, supplications, and requests?
- Does God hear me when I pray?
- How does God's answer to my prayers align with His will?
- How does my prayer affect God’s will for me and others?
- How does prayer impact the good God is producing in my life?
- When should I stop praying about something?
- Is prayer a dispensational subject in the Word of God?
With clarity and insight, *How Prayer Actually Works* will guide you into a deeper relationship with God, encouraging you to pray more diligently and effectively. Whether you are a new believer or spiritually mature, this book offers transformative truths that can change the way you pray—and the way you live. *How Prayer Actually Works* affirms that God answers every prayer in love—perfectly, with both now and eternity in view for the child of God. This book will challenge readers to pray more diligently and transform their understanding of how prayer can shape their tomorrow for God’s glory.
Let's get busy praying and shaping our tomorrows for God's glory. #howprayeractuallyworks

John Harris is a passionate and caring pastor, teacher, podcaster, Professor Emeritus of Engineering, Child of God. Before completing his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, he gave his life to Christ, answering God's call to serve in central Pennsylvania in local church ministry alongside his wife, Penny. Husband, father of two, and grandparent of six, he retired after 33 years as a university professor to become an ordained Pastor, compellingly presenting God's Word in all media through his unique engineering perspective and engaging approach. "How Prayer Actually Works" is his first non-secular book, a product of years of study in the Word of God and thousands of studies taught.
The topic of prayer is an area of the Christian life in which there is much confusion. It is hard to find a solid, doctrinally sound discussion on the subject. There are myriads of "self-help" style prayer books with prayers for this and prayers for that: seemingly magical sets of words that supposedly get the attention of God. You could fill an arena with books on prayer promises and how to make those promises yours. Some of these may have some value; however, they miss the mark and often leave the reader rather hollow and unfilled.
In truth, prayer is a profoundly personal experience between you and the God who answers prayer. It is founded on the intimate relationship that you have with Him. He wants us to come to Him in all matters of life, building a loving and trusting relationship. When you truly understand How Prayer Actually Works and God's deep love for you, you will find yourself challenged to have a consistent and powerful prayer life for the cause of Jesus Christ and to effect change in your personal life and the world in which we live. Exercising prayer in your life is life and tomorrow changing.
