If you work with intermediate and/or advanced level instrumentalists, this collection of Christmas carols (Book Two of two) is for you. Similar to other published books of Christmas Duets and Trios by the arranger, each of the ten carols are prepared and organized with the intermediate players in mind. This volume will become a great resource for music directors and advanced players in search of hymn tunes which can be played by like instruments or flexibly grouped trios for a variety of venues.

Each carol includes trio parts for each of the five instrument groupings:

  • C Instruments in Treble Clef (flute, oboe, violin, keyboard, etc.)
  • Bb Instruments in Treble Clef (Bb clarinet and trumpet, tenor sax)
  • Eb Instruments in Treble Clef (alto sax, baritone sax, alto clarinet, etc.)
  • F Instruments in Treble Clef (F horn)
  • C Instruments in Bass Clef (trombone, baritone, tuba, bassoon, cello, etc.)
The trio parts are transposed in concert key. One C Flute could play with one Bb Clarinet and one Eb Alto Sax, or small numbers of players could be assigned to parts I, II, or III. These trios could also work well with middle level bands, especially those groups with imbalanced or incomplete like-instrumentation. Many of the trios could be prepared by students themselves, empowering them to showcase their skills during programs, or they also will provide engaging reading under the tutelage of a private teacher in a studio setting.
