Sneak Peak
"Walderhurst is coming to me. It always amuses me to have Walderhurst. The moment a man like that comes into a room the women begin to frisk about and swim and languish, except those who try to get up interesting conversations they think likely to attract his attention. They all think it is possible that he may marry them. If he were a Mormon he might have marchionesses of Walderhurst of all shapes and sizes.”

Synopsis
Emily Fox-Seton appreciates a little kindness in day-to-day her life. She is happy in life, but her desire is to find love and not become an old maid. She receives an invitation from the sharp-tongued Lady Maria Bayne to come out to the country. Now she has come up with an idea to make her plain, brown dress look a bit closer to the new style for the year -- for her dress "must" last longer, since she has hardly a penny to her name. However, having but a few pennies hardly means being of few resources.
It is in the country that Miss Fox-Seton meets the Marquess of Walderhurst. Will her dreams finally come true? When her circumstances change, what danger might she face from those who stand to lose the most.

Francis Hodgson Burnett tells the tale of a young woman who is successful in life despite her modest beginnings.
