Synopsis

CITYarts Pieces for Peace book is an urgent call for children and youth to actively pursue and celebrate peace through the creation of art. Youth from NYC, the 50 States, and around the world were asked to illustrate their answer to the question, “What does peace look like to me?” So far, over 12,000 works have been received from 120 countries. Selected Pieces for Peace artworks are included in this book, in a traveling exhibition, and have inspired Peace Walls in New York, Pakistan, Israel, Germany, the UK, Spain, and Belgium with more being planned nationally and globally. We hope this book will act as a call to action for us to join hands in unity and create a world of peace we can all enjoy.

CITYarts empowers children and youth by bringing them together with professional artists to create public art that addresses civic and social issues, impacts their lives, and transforms their communities. By thinking globally and acting locally, CITYarts projects build bridges of cultural understanding, giving youth the opportunity to take an active role in shaping their own future. Started in 1989 by Tsipi Ben-Haim, the Founder and Executive/Creative Director, CITYarts has engaged youth from all over the world in the creation of over 370 public art projects that have transformed communities and impacted over 100,000 youth, collaborated with more than 500 artists, partnered with over 1,500 sponsors, and engaged over 500,000 volunteers in the process.
