Synopsis

The year is 1945 and Dresden, Germany, is being firebombed during World War II! Twelve-year-old Greta is worried that her cousin, Hannah, will soon be deported. Hannah is Jewish, and the only thing that has helped her family remain in Dresden during the war is her Christian father. But when Allied bombers suddenly descend on the city, Greta realizes that she, her mother, and her cousin's family are all in grave danger. Will Greta find a way to help everyone escape before the firebombing completely destroys Dresden?

Julie Gilbert has been writing and publishing since the fourth grade, when she stapled together a series of graphic novels about her cat. Julie is the author of the Dark Waters series from Stone Arch Books, as well as several titles in the Girls Survive series. She also has written Cemetery Songs, a novel for young adults. Julie's novels consider themes of identity and belonging, often with a healthy dose of fantasy and magic. She lives with her family in Minnesota.
