Synopsis

The advancements in photography just prior to the American Civil War allowed people of all stations of life to be photographed. Never before in history were children's images captured in the tens of thousands. This collection contains images not seen anywhere else from my private collection. Most are unidentified. All of them are forever remembered in the photographs they left, telling us a bit about themselves in their dress, poses and expressions. For lack of available images my collection is not diverse or inclusive. This is not a scholarly academic work. Rather it is a collection of primary sources with interesting information, asides and descriptions, some speculative, by me. It is my hope that these children can teach us about themselves, especially those who endeavor to recreate through living history.
