Synopsis
To know God is to consider, to the best of one’s ability, the divine nature of a Supreme Being and what that nature might expect of his human creations. In the ninetieth year of his life, Julian Bauer explores in this book what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and the cost of the obedience necessary to be consecrated in the truth. Julian finds the challenge required to become a sharer in the divine nature bearable if one accepts the freely given grace of God. We make mistakes when we desire to run from reality instead of developing a wholesome trust in Jesus. That trust in his forgiveness and his mercy eventually bestows a love so grand that we become more like him in unity and thereby render divine justice to others. If, instead of becoming like Jesus, we judge and condemn others through self-absorbing addictions, we lose the ability to obey God’s authority. Often using his own family as an example, Julian drives home to the reader that the suffering found in life may be useful as a vehicle to develop the compassion and mercy necessary to evolve into an acceptable child of God. The most complete human image of God (Father, Son, and Spirit) may very well be the love and unity of the human family.
