Synopsis

The story of passion, adversity and fate.

Returning from his summer escapade to Spain, Samuel Marwell brings home an unexpected trophy: a walking cane that once belonged to the Duke of Wellington. A wealthy eccentric and a collector of antique canes, Samuel has created a world for himself that he is reluctant to share with others. Master of free time, he has found contentment in the remoteness of his imposing country house and in safety of everyday routine. A tragic incident shatters the tranquillity of his existence, bringing back memory of past disappointments. Will he get the love he once craved? Will a series of surprising events change his life?

“He was then witness to scenes straight out of some horrifying dream. Pulsating and sharp to the point of pain. Theo was coming towards him looking him straight in the eyes. He was firing separate words as if wanting to drive them into his brain. Samuel was shrinking and sinking deeper into his armchair.”

“A good name, thought Samuel and imagined an independent and confident woman, arousing interest in men and envy in other women. Keeping her distance from people but being able to be a good friend. Not falling easily in love and remaining constant in her affections. Tender and loyal, but capable of spitefulness and even cruelty. In other words – an ideal woman.”
