Synopsis

My stories are more than reading an arrangement of words and pages. You’re getting hours of work. A zillion edits and re-writes. Sleepless nights. Unshaven days. Mumbling in the supermarket queue. Strange looks, customers stepping back and allowing you through.
And that’s without the emotional turmoil. Highs so high you’re walking on the moon. Lows? Down there with Beelzebub pulling the legs off spiders.
My son suggested the stories contained too much sex. I was shocked and took a fresh look. Sex I thought. Where? Nothing approaches raunchy or steamy, but suggestiveness and humour abound. The delightfully rounded rear-end of Print-Room-Mavis caused more marital disharmony than David Beckham’s nanny and Rotherhithe-Rodney stumbled.”
Feelings and reactions we have all experienced or can imagine, James paused outside the ivy-covered porch with four bottles of Gold Top in his crate for Miss Blume. The door opened, a thirty-something female in the doorway. Ice-blue eyes and silent as a ghost. A lace camisole terminated mid-thigh. What strange clothes, he thought. Does she wear that under her other stuff? Despite having three elder sisters, female clothing was a mystery and he tried to look whilst not looking. Miss Blume watched him in the hall mirror and grinned.”
I touch on abuse in a sentence or two (Minty’s Scrapyard). This provides a platform for Mum and son solidarity and enables a crushing revenge that leaves the reader sharing a sense of vindication with the protagonists.
Michael.
