Synopsis

My  research highlights the importance of "sensemaking"-the process by which people give meaning to their collective experiences. When an organization faces a crisis, the strategic response is often less about the objective reality of the challenge and more about how that challenge is framed by leadership. If a manager frames a market downturn as an existential threat, employees are likely to exhibit loss aversion, leading to defensive, risk-averse behaviors that may exacerbate the problem.

Conversely, framing the same challenge as an opportunity for innovation can trigger a different set of psychological responses, fostering creative problem-solving.Solving Organizational Challenges through Behavioral DesignTo solve challenges effectively,

My view suggests that organizations must move beyond static strategic planning. Instead, they should adopt an iterative, experimental approach that treats strategy as a series of behavioral hypotheses.

By applying the principles of behavioral economics, organizations can:Reduce Cognitive Load: Simplify complex processes to prevent decision fatigue, which often leads to poor strategic choices.

Leverage Social Proof: Utilize the human tendency to conform to social norms to drive organizational change, ensuring that new strategic initiatives are adopted by influential peer groups first.
