“Many feared Skalldur, but few defied him. Ransom was one of those few, and if Skalldur ever figured out exactly who he was…”
While recovering from a mission, Ransom overhears a conversation that winds him up on a mission he wasn’t supposed to go on, imprisoned in a future time. His sole goal is to return to his time, but fate won’t let him unless he completes a prophecy. The issue? He is supposed to help end and balance a war he knows nothing about, and both sides are out for his blood – or the blood of the future family who took him in. Before he can even think about returning to his time, he must adapt to the time, figure out which side to join without getting killed, save his adoptive family, actually join a side, and somehow end a war that has no end in sight… which still leaves him stuck in the future while Skalldur destroys everything he has loved.
Ransom’s apprentice Will just went on his first solo mission. Now tasked with choosing to continue agenting or quit, Will follows his rogue master to Von Kel, where his plan to save his master fails, and his master gets sent to the future. This leaves him to fill in for his master for an unknown amount of time, which means fixing the rebellion’s alliance with the elves and sabotaging Skalldur’s plans. As he tries to stall the magician’s plans to destroy the rebellion, his past with the magician comes to light. Finding a way to bring back his master goes from absurd to impossible, but he has to try. His master might just be the key to the rebellion’s survival.
