The DEI label fell out of fashion because of activist excess and shifting political winds, not because the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion are defective or unworthy of serious consideration. In this anthology, a group of theologians and writers reflect on these values, on the DEI phenomenon as a whole, and on related themes such as identity, recognition, friendship, enmity, and lamentation. They consider what is right and good in the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and what traditional DEI got wrong or left out. The aim is not to recommend a Christian or theological worldview, but to show how religious traditions might enlarge future efforts at social advocacy and take us beyond the partisan deadlock.
