Synopsis: Go to Your God Like a Soldier tells the lives of two men--one Japanese, the other American-- pitted against each other in the jungles of New Guinea during early WWII. Their confrontation is based on the actual "Battle of the Kokoda Track," which prevented the Japanese from seizing a base to invade Australia. Masanobu Tsuji, notorious for war crimes against civilians in Japanese-occupied territories, was revered in Japan as the "God of Operations" for his brilliant planning in the capture of Singapore. The otherwise unknown Lieutenant Eugene Epstein leads the reconnaissance platoon of a newly arrived, unseasoned division in alliance with a native tribe--modeled after the exploits of the Marine Raiders on Guadal Canal. The battle is the culmination of a clash between two cultures--the best and darkest of both.
