This book focuses on advances in health and disease. Chapter 1 presents the results of the effect of scaffolds based on CS, Alg loaded with inorganic NPs created in the scientific laboratory “Bionanocomposite” of Sumy State University (Ukraine) on the healing of an experimental skeletal defect in vivo in a rat model. Chapter 2 aims to put a spotlight on electroconvulsive treatment (ECT) specifically in the forensic context by presenting an overview of the clinical indications unique to the forensic population and legal frameworks that come into play, as well as their application based on patients’ legal classification in California. Chapter 3 compares conventional diagnostic methods and treatments with emerging molecular techniques, highlighting their advantages and limitations. Chapter 4 examines executive functions and cognitive control in children of parents with schizophrenia and BD to identify potential cognitive vulnerability markers for psychosis. Chapter 5 explores the multifaceted role of empathy in clinical practice, emphasizing its psychological and neurological foundations, types, and distinctions from sympathy. Chapter 6 provides a comparative analysis of physiological versus pharmacological corticosteroid actions, emphasizing their impact on multiple biological systems and quantifying their adverse effects based on impact data analysis. Finally, Chapter 7 discusses non-pharmacological intervention for managing sleep patterns in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
