As a young man, Charles Elin once proposed writing a column for The Soho Weekly News, which seemed equivalent to his summer work as a theater critic. He wanted to stand on any designated corner in NYC's Greenwich Village and record the comings and goings. Mind What Comes and Goes is of similar design but in poetic form, recording the mental space of common language and common objects.

Charles Elin first made contact with Larry Fagin (poet of the New York School) after reading his profile piece in The New York Times. In this introductory meeting, Larry referred to Charles's writing as "spastic, but curious." It was the beginning of a four-year association. Charles continued to work with Larry until his death in 2017. Over this period, Larry published a chapbook of his poems and stories. Then added two later stories to his magazine, The Delineator. Flash fiction pieces have been published by the Columbia Journal, Corium Magazine, and Midway Journal. Charles's poems have appeared in over a dozen literary journals, including Rosebud, Forge, and Mantis. His latest chapbook is Orange Fanta. Mind What Comes and Goes is his first full-length book of poetry. By profession, Charles is a psychiatric social worker in private practice.
