Synopsis
This story is part of the book series ‘Taylor’s Tales’ and they can be read in any order. The first story is about friendship ‘Out of My Shell: Taylor’s Tale of Friendship’, the second is about exploring the sensory world ‘Discovering the World: Taylor’s Tale of Sensory Exploration’, the third is about starting school in an Autism Class ‘Finding My Feet: Taylor’s Tale of Starting School’.
This tale follows the journey of Taylor the Turtle, who is a charming non-verbal character on the autism spectrum. It explores her experience during a doctor's appointment and an unexpected hospital stay due to an illness. In the beginning she feels nervous as the medical environment is overwhelming, especially due to the busy environment filled with unfamiliar faces, loud sounds, and bright lights.
Throughout the story she encounters many doctors and nurses and even has a delightful hospital sleepover with her new friend Margot the Meerkat, where they enjoy movies, indulge in treats and stay up late together. She learns that the hospital is not as scary as she imagined.
This heart-warming story highlights Taylor’s personal growth and strength, while also showing children that even scary situations can lead to new friendships and valuable life lessons. It conveys a positive message that sometimes extra care in a hospital setting is necessary but there is no need to be afraid. By the end of the story, Taylor learns to find her inner strength and is ready to take on any new challenges that life has to offer.
