In 1622 Scotland, ten-year-old Logan Grant's life transforms when Wild Flower – a mysterious six-year-old with extraordinary abilities – arrives at her grandfather's fortified stronghouse. Logan tries to hate the newcomer, but quickly discovers that she is far more than she appears: a time traveller born 829 years earlier, blessed with prophetic visions and the power to exist in the past, present and future.
Wild Flower reveals to Logan that she has a glorious destiny. Though Logan is just a child, she begins absorbing knowledge and abilities from her future self. She trains with a sword under the expert tutelage of her grandfather's Sergeant-at-Arms, Michael Deedigan and, secretly, through Wild Flower, with a hero from the past.
When Logan's grandfather becomes entangled in a dangerous plot involving two English conspirators, Howison and Dalry, Logan and Wild Flower must navigate a treacherous journey to protect the Queen of the West. The conspirators claim to bear documents from King James, but their true mission is far more sinister. They plan to disgrace the queen or, failing that, to kill her.
As Logan travels with the plotters as a hostage, she discovers her ability to slip between time periods, witnessing herself at the ages of sixteen and twenty. The boundaries between her present and future selves blur. She realises that what will happen has, in some sense, already happened.
With Wild Flower's mystical guidance and Deedigan's unwavering protection, Logan must embrace both her childhood innocence and her powerful destiny. Along the way, she encounters the MacDonald forces led by Finlay and Heather, discovers ancient writings of the philosopher Noory McGregor that foretell Scotland's future independence and learns that her own grandfather will restore honour to the disgraced Clan Grant.
The story culminates in a deadly confrontation where Logan must fully become her future self to thwart the assassination of the Queen of the West but – in a world where past, present and future intertwine – nothing is quite as it seems.
A tale of destiny, courage, and the power of time itself, The Girl With Golden Eyes weaves Scottish history with fantasy to create an unforgettable story of a girl who must grow up too fast to save her world, while somehow remaining exactly who she was always meant to be.
