THE SHOESHINE BOX
A boy who thought the streets of Williamsburg were his forever discovers, in one afternoon, that nothing stays the same. Six year old Meyer loses the world he knew and is left with a silence he cannot fill and a guilt far too heavy for a child. What he finds instead is an old, battered shoeshine box abandoned in an alley something ordinary that becomes his reason to keep going, to be useful, to be seen for more than the blame he carries.
The Shoeshine Box traces Meyer across the years: subway platforms, smoke filled rooms, friendships that demand everything, and a life built so far from his beginnings that the boy he once was would scarcely know the man he becomes. Yet grief, memory, and that small wooden box refuse to be left behind.
A novel about the things we carry, the lives we construct to outrun them, and the moment they finally catch up when we stop running.
