Synopsis

EVERY SYSTEM HAS RULES UNTIL SOMEONE FINDS A WAY AROUND THEM. After surviving the conspiracy at the heart of Branded, communications professor Jackson Pierce wants his old life back. But when General Burgess Hurdle asks him to help build an independent presidential campaign, Jackson is pulled from the classroom into a contest that could upend the political order. What begins as an unlikely experiment soon attracts the attention of people who would rather see the campaign disappear before voters can decide its fate. As the race tightens and old alliances begin to fracture, barriers rise in places Jackson never expected. Rules change and reputations collapse as private threats begin to shadow public victories. Even Jackson's family is drawn into the conflict when political loyalties place father and daughter on opposite sides of a national struggle. By the time Hurdle's campaign becomes impossible to ignore, Jackson can no longer tell where politics ends and something darker begins. The closer his candidate moves toward history, the more dangerous the forces gathering around them become. As the country edges toward a reckoning, Jackson discovers that Independent Thought may be the most dangerous idea in a system built on loyalty.
