Synopsis

Maya loves to sing, especially with her choir. But when the time comes for her first concert, a strange feeling overwhelms Maya. Her hands start to sweat and when she opens her mouth, no sounds comes out.

Will she be able to conquer her fear so she can perform?

Designed for young performers and everyday worriers alike, this story weaves built-in participation prompts and try-it-now strategies right into the read-aloud, so children can practice coping skills as the plot unfolds.

Perfect for:

  • Parents preparing kids for concerts, recitals, talent shows, or class presentations
  • Music, drama, and classroom teachers supporting performance confidence
  • School counselors and librarians teaching SEL and growth mindset
  • Ages 4-8 (PreK-3)

Whether your child loves to sing, dance, or act, sometimes the thought of sharing that talent in front of a crowd can be terrifying. But that fear doesn't have to stop them from doing what they love. The fact is that anxiety is experienced by young children, which is why Maya and the Stage Fright is here to help! Inside, you'll find interactive opportunities and strategies for overcoming stage fright, all within the storyline.
