Synopsis

Order a drink and lean in. Someone at the end of the bar on the starship is about to spin a yarn.

Eight short stories in this first volume of Tales from a Space Bar, the speculative fiction anthology written, read, and edited inside the actual, real life Space Bar in Pittsburgh. Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Award winner Mary Robinette Kowal opens the collection with a brand new flash fiction piece, and six more authors pull up a stool behind her.

The stories move from comedy to cosmic horror to quiet grief, each one caught mid-pour. An immortal knight comes for the queen he loved and lost. A welder learns that her radiation-proof space armor is alive, and hungry. A psychic bartender reads every regular and keeps what she finds. A writer begs a stranger to come open the door.

If you find yourself in Pittsburgh, Space Bar is in Market Square. The teleporter is just inside the door.

Featuring stories by Mary Robinette Kowal, Suvajeet Duttagupta, Deborah Sale-Butler, B.R. Myles, Chris Lee Jones, Tom Paul, and editor Dale Thomas Vaughn.

À propos des auteurs

Mary Robinette Kowal is the USA Today bestselling author of the Lady Astronaut series and the Glamourist Histories. Her novel The Calculating Stars is one of the few works to win the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus awards in a single year. She is also a recipient of the Astounding Award for Best New Writer and multiple Hugo awards. A professional puppeteer for over twenty years, Kowal draws on her background in physical performance for her approach to character in prose. She shares this craft as a core cast member of the long-running, Hugo-winning podcast Writing Excuses. Kowal served as President of SFWA and narrates audiobooks. At home, she explores communication through a different lens with her cat, Elsie, who uses Augmentative Interspecies Communication buttons to talk. She also has an asteroid named after her.

Dale Thomas Vaughn edited this collection and wrote two of its stories, "Here for the Queen" and "Infinite Rest." He co-owns Space Bar, Pittsburgh's molecular mixology lounge, and founded SpaceBurgh, the city's annual celebration of space and science fiction. His indie-published Birthright series opened with Birthright: Recall, an Amazon bestseller, and his short fiction has appeared in Something in a Mailbox and was longlisted for the Oxford Short Story Prize. A voting member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, he is shopping The Stillness, a novel that reimagines Camelot in 1840s Texas.
