Synopsis

GENRE IS A CONSTRUCT. GENRE DOES NOT EXIST.

Such are the guiding principles of the curation process for Subtle Body Press’s fiction anthology series debuting in October 2024. Our focus with Body Shots is one thing and one thing only: finding works from new, established, and emerging voices whose stories move us, grip us, entertain us, and/or make us think, compulsively turning pages until we reach the end, regardless of genre, form, or trope. In our first volume, you will find an eclectic mix of conventional fiction, transgressive fiction, stream of consciousness, magical realism, slipstream, and horror, with great care to arrange it all along a path of shared, recurring, or related themes. This Fall 2024 edition features new, exclusive stories by Joe Nazare, Abhishek Sengupta, Diane Lefer, Christina Hoag, Shelley Lavigne, Jon Lasser, Bert S.G., Bucket Siler, Tom Johnstone, Gary Smith, Bryan Miller, Leon Peter Blanda, Sarah Liddle, Sean Kilpatrick, and Rob Grafrath.

Cliff Hensley is the editor-in-chief of indie publishing house Subtle Body Press, which he also co-founded. He is an author of fiction and creative nonfiction working in the mediums of metafiction, surrealism, magical realism, slipstream, dark fantasy, and macabre horror, whose writing often incorporates typographic trickery and nonstandard construction to enhance immersion while blurring the line between plain text and visual art. Most recently, he authored the macabre horror novella "Now You See," a "prose LP" available through Shiloh House Press. Cliff is also an award-winning micro-budget, no-budget, and chamber filmmaker.
