THE PICTURE BOOK FOR GROWN-UPS...and kids
A beautifully illustrated and stirring story that reminds us to never lose wonder and gratitude for the simple joys in life.
A touching and timeless story that captures the importance of living in the present.
A joyous young boy lives life with zest and vibrance until he gets older and forgets the simple marvels that make each day special. Artfully written in rhyme and with bold painterly illustrations by Thomas J. Penisten, A Time for Color expertly depicts the magnitude of living life with intention, mindfulness, and gratitude.
In this uplifting and gentle story, a cheerful boy's colors shine bright as he enjoys each day's splendor. His gratitude, curiosity, and joie de vivre was shown through his colors who joined him on every adventure, every exploit, and with each emotion.
"Color awaited me around every turn;
My mind alive, there was so much to learn!
The sounds and smells encompassed my soul.
At the end of each day, my childhood was full.
My color was stunning, it's hard to explain.
A rainbow around me was hard to contain."
His colors were always there for him, awaiting the next day's successes and challenges. But as the years passed and the boy became an older man, his colors were dimming, and he became too busy with responsibilities and commitments to give them a second thought. Before he knows it, his colors become gray and his life, colorless.
When he realizes that vibrance for life is a choice you make, no matter the challenges or troubles life serves up, his colors return and help him appreciate all the small wonders of life around him once again.
With uplifting verse and touching sentiments, A Time for Color weaves a story of hope, courage. Beautifully chromatic, the book is a wonderful reminder for children and adults alike to keep the brightness and spirit in our lives by appreciating all that it has to offer. In the spirit of Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree, A Time for Color is a classic in the making.

Author Thomas J. Penisten has always had a passion for writing, especially when it makes one think long after the book is closed. Thomas believes a good story is one that sends a positive message and evokes emotion and reflection. He hopes his readers will relate to the story and recognize the importance of feeling gratitude, joy, and living in the present, and have their own feelings validated. Thomas tries to capture emotion when illustrating by drawing on the outlooks as he remembers as a child and also the challenges and losses everyone faces throughout their lives. While Thomas has always loved the arts and writing, having attended the Metropolitan School of Art where he studied the classics, it seemed he never had the time. His family are very supportive that he is finally pursuing what he loves. His wife, Landa, in particular, has been instrumental in his editing and publishing process. He was also inspired by the goodness of his late sister, Chrissy, a schoolteacher who was kind to all. A kid at heart, when he isn't busy writing thought-provoking books, Thomas enjoys hiking, camping, snowmobiling, ATVing, and bicycle riding with his wife. He has two daughters, one son and two grand daughters. They live in Platteville, Wisconsin, with their Boston Terrier Winston.
