Just like an oak tree, I am determined,
I am strong,
I am joyful.
And I’ll stand for God all day long.
In this third and final installment of her series, Be Kind: Understanding Disability, author Debbie Oelke once again opens up the world of those with disabilities to young readers. Kayla Gallaway’s engaging illustrations serve as the perfect backdrop as children explore the challenges of autism faced by a little girl named Oakley. Join Oakley and her family as they journey through her diagnosis and the many accommodations required for her to survive and thrive in today’s world of noise and insensitivity. Children will see the importance of inclusion and kindness as they learn more about autism and those who live every day with this condition.
Third in the series Be Kind: Understanding Disability.

Debbie Oelke was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of twenty-five but did not experience any disability for the next eighteen years. She now encounters life in a wheelchair. Having experienced rapid disease progression, she has learned to cling tightly to the Lord for sustenance. Debbie thoroughly enjoys small-town life in Kansas with her husband and three children.
Kayla Gallaway is a homegrown Kansas artist whose goal is to reflect Christ in her art, her actions and her attitude. She loves to find beauty in small, quiet moments and share it with others through watercolor painting and graphic design. When not being artsy, Kayla enjoys adventuring with her husband and being a "cat mom."
