A knife in her heart!
Detective Al Warner views the gristly murder of a 40’s, attractive, black-haired woman, strangled after sex, and the blade plunged home postmortem. Is a new serial killer prowling the streets of Miami? But no more deaths occur, so the file goes cold—until the same M.O. happens again, 2 years later. Still, no similar deaths ensue, so again another “cold case,” until a 3rd murder, after 2 more years.
Warner is sure he has another serial lunatic, the 7th in 8 years. He’s probably traveling on some type of schedule. The FBI is summoned, profiling the pyscho as someone trying to still an “evil” heart. A deep scrub of the South and Southeast finds a total of 18 previously unconnected murders over 10 years, scattered from Virginia to Florida. The knife-in-the-heart is a recent escalation.
Then, on Warner’s hunch, the FBI discovers a possible connection, but there are multiple potential suspects. Several are visiting Miami, but trickery abounds during the investigation, spawning false leads and surprising twists before a clever ploy by Warner brings everything to a stunning conclusion.
