Robin Paige, the creator of Butchie the Bicycle, started writing her life story years ago and her fond memories of learning to ride a hand-me-down bike inspired this book. Her father, Butch, would take her and her sister on long bike rides along the C&D canal where they grew up. She resides in beautiful Chester County, Pennsylvania, with her family, three rescue dogs and is working on more children's books and a novel. She decided this character, "Butchie," needed to meet the world and little readers everywhere. Her goal for this book was to provide the readers with a feeling of nostalgia and connection with Butchie.
