The ghostly train appears from nowhere, whisking Steve and his fluffy orange cat Monty from the train yards in Portland, Oregon to the training airfields of the Tuskegee Airmen in 1943. It's the height of World War II, and Steve is suddenly in the shoes of one of the famed black pilots. In the face of prejudice and segregation, Steve and his fellow airmen must become expert pilots, flying fighter planes in epic air battles that will test their bravery and skills. Will Steve survive the missions given to the daring pilots? Do cats make good co-pilots? Will Steve and Monty ever make it back home again?
