Synopsis

John Freeman did everything right. That’s the problem.

The career.
The house.
The life that looks perfect from the outside, but feels hollow on the inside.

Then a stranger on a routine flight tells John about the day he almost died. It’s not the near-death experience that unsettles John. It’s the one detail that shouldn’t be possible. The one he can’t explain.

Or forget.

The mystery leads John back to a dream he abandoned long ago, and to a secluded airfield the modern world forgot. There, he meets an enigmatic flight instructor whose lessons have little to do with flying.

Who the old man is—and how he knows what he knows—are mysteries John can’t unravel until he begins to question the limits of what he believes is possible.

Over one unforgettable summer, John is forced to question what is chance, what is choice, and whether the turning points in our lives are as random as they seem. His final choice is the hardest of all: the life he knows, or the life that might have been waiting for him all along.

Because discovering the life you were meant to live is one thing. Having the courage to choose it is another.

Flying Colors is part adventure, part mystery, and part modern-day parable wrapped in a thought-provoking story about buried dreams, unexpected connections, and the moments that make us question what we think we know about life.

For readers who loved The Alchemist and Theo of Golden, this is the kind of book that finds you when you need it most.

Praise for Flying Colors:
"At home in the compelling realms of The Alchemist and Field of Dreams, Laney's Flying Colors is richly told and impossibly vibrant. The story will stay with you long after the final page is turned."
— John Hart, six-time New York Times bestselling author
