David Smale is the author of more than 30 books, mostly on sports history. He is a lifelong sports fan-he could count to 720 before he started kindergarten because that's how many cards were in a set of baseball cards, and he had to be able to put them into order. He also enjoys writing biographies, especially when the person he's writing about is a little "out there," as can be said about Ron Gatto. Through the process of writing this book, Smale and Gatto have become good friends. Other than his family, the only thing Smale is more passionate about than sports is his faith. He is not a writer who happens to be a Christian; he's a Christian who happens to be a writer.
