Dan (Chip) Kerr has finally come to terms with the loss of his brother in Vietnam, and he is happy with his life and his job as the managing editor of the local paper. All is well despite Dan's disapproval of his brother, the mayor's, lifestyle. Dan tries his best to keep inflammatory stories about the mayor out of the paper. Despite inevitable gossip, Dan is successful, for the most part, in keeping the citizens of Coltonwood unaware of the mayor's antics until a scandal erupts which forces Dan to choose between his professional ethics and obligations and his loyalty to his brother.
Feeling like the Kerr family's lives have the makings to a Greek Drama, Dan seeks solace in the diary he wrote when he was eleven. He has learned to cope with crises by turning to the diary., be he must decide if reading the diary is just a pleasant diversion or a strange obsession. He hides the diary from his wife and his c0-workers as though it is a guilty secret. If Dan had a bottle in his desk drawer, people would attribute its presence to the stress he's under. But a childhood diary? Would anyone understand?
