Synopsis

She fled scandal. She found love. Then faith demanded its price.

In 1901, Anna arrives in rural Michigan determined to disappear. An immigrant with no money and a past she cannot outrun, she takes refuge as a rectory housekeeper. It's her penance for the choice that cost her everything.

She does not expect Joe.

A young priest with a listening heart and dangerous compassion, Joe draws Anna into a forbidden love that shatters their lives. Cast out of the Church, they marry in secret and flee to booming Toledo, dreaming of a future beyond shame, silence, and sacrifice.

But when tragedy strikes their child, faith demands a terrible bargain. Joe returns to the priesthood, leaving Anna to face loss, love, and survival alone. Once again, she must choose between obedience and self-determination.

Sins of Liberty is about a woman's autonomy, forbidden love, and the cost of redemption in a world determined to decide women's worth for them. Set in the rise of the American Rust Belt, it weaves religion and the fight for women's rights into an unforgettable story of courage and resilience.

"Seybold's addictive melodrama is a tale of sin, redemption, forgiveness, love, and loss, with a soupçon of tragedy. An intriguing story of the brutal battle for women's rights." - Kirkus Reviews

"Sins of Liberty takes women's rights and immigration and intertwines them in a love story that you won't soon forget." - Jillian Forsberg, author of the historical novel The Rhino Keeper

"This solid work of high dramatic embellishments and the growing motivations of women to find new places and roles for themselves in America could not have come at a better time. Enlightening, empowering, and entertaining, all in one." - Midwest Book Review.
