Synopsis

UCX was built on a miracle. Zach Finn’s revolutionary cancer drug reversed most solid tumors for extended periods, creating a fortune for Zach and allowing him to fund a new university which became a battleground over the purpose of modern academic medical centers. Powerful men’s pursuit of love and sex disrupts the lives of everyone around them, while two violent deaths on campus ignite fear and undermine the university’s administration. A local bridge club is another battleground, creating rivalries and friendships which mimic those in the nearby university.

Meanwhile, Zach’s newfound passion leads him to establish the Missionary Society, a small group whose ideals and goals seem to conflict with his own interests.

After UCX undergoes reorganization, most of the main characters depart for “retirement” in Kauai, where they once again disrupt the status quo through their idealistic ventures.

The Missionary Society is an intellectual thriller that pits committed women against the monied establishment. Sex, love and relationships intertwine to create painful but ultimately redemptive conflicts as these women teach the men around them about what really matters.
