Uncertainty. Reinvention. The courage to choose yourself.
He followed the path that was supposed to lead to success—graduating college, landing a stable job, and building a life that looked right on paper. But somewhere along the way, something felt off. The structure that once felt secure began to feel suffocating, and the future he had been chasing no longer felt like his own.
What followed was a quiet unraveling of late nights filled with doubt, days spent questioning everything, and eventually, a decision that changed everything: walking away from certainty to pursue something more honest, more uncertain, and more aligned with who he truly was.
The Cost of Becoming Me traces that journey through poetry, capturing the tension between comfort and risk, ambition and fulfillment, fear and freedom. Written across years and gathered from old flip phones, notebooks, and forgotten files, this collection reflects the emotional landscape of young adulthood and the moments that force you to redefine who you are.
Patrick Johns is a writer who left behind a conventional path to pursue a life rooted in creativity and exploration. This collection is for anyone standing at a crossroads—feeling lost, uncertain, and ready for something more. Within these pages, readers will find reflection, reassurance, and the reminder that change, while uncomfortable, can lead you back to yourself.
