Shared Vision
Eye Teaming for Success
by Maureen Powers, PhD, and Gina Day, OD
Why do some bright, capable children struggle with reading, attention, or sports—despite having “perfect” eyesight?
In Shared Vision, neuroscientist Maureen Powers and optometrist Gina Day reveal a hidden and often misunderstood cause: binocular vision issues (BVI). These conditions affect how the eyes work together as a team. Drawing on decades of research, clinical practice, and personal experience, the authors explain why traditional eye exams often miss these issues—and what can be done to help.
Blending science with real-world stories, Shared Vision takes readers beyond the eye chart to explore how vision, brain processing, and learning are deeply connected. Having 20/20 vision solves part of our connection with the world, but having excellent binocular 3D vision allows a special dimension to visual perception. The book introduces an innovative, research-backed approach to improving visual skills through engaging technology, including virtual-reality–based games designed to strengthen eye coordination, depth perception, and reading fluency.
Written in clear, accessible language, this book empowers parents, educators, and clinicians to recognize warning signs early, ask better questions, and explore effective, affordable solutions that can change a child’s academic and personal trajectory.
Shared Vision offers hope, clarity, and a forward-thinking path to helping children see—and succeed—more fully.
