Hardcover. Etat : new. Hardcover. Ayo's name means joy. When she is taken far from home, across the water, and into a world determined to rename her, Ayo holds on to the one truth no one can take from her: her name.Through memory, silence, fear, and faith, Ayo carries the sound of home inside herself. Even when others try to strip away her identity, she protects the meaning of who she is. Long after her footsteps fade, the name she kept safe waits to be found by Joy, a descendant who discovers that some stories are not gone. They are hidden, carried, and waiting to return.Inspired by the legacy of African names, the memory of the transatlantic slave trade, and the traditional spiritual "Wade in the Water," this story honors those who were stripped of home, history, language, family, and birthright, yet still carried truth across generations.Wade in the Water: My Name Is Ayo is a powerful children's picture book about identity, ancestry, remembrance, resilience, and the sacred names that survive.
