Set in the timeless hush of old Fredericksburg, "Nini & Connor" follows two spirited siblings whose ordinary summer afternoons are suddenly stirred awake by a bold Red-tailed Hawk and one unforgettable squirrel named Jack. What begins as a small act of kindness grows into an adventure filled with quick courage, backyard secrets, and the warm hilarity of family life—complete with a plump, unlikely hero of a cat and a kitten who believes he’s fiercer than he looks!
Told with the glow of a childhood remembered and the charm of a tale passed down on a porch at dusk, this tale celebrates loyalty, bravery, and the magic tucked inside everyday moments. This simple, tender, and soulful classic read reminds us that even the smallest creatures—and the smallest humans—can shape a summer worth remembering!

V. Lambinicio Jr. began writing at an early age, even winning a Bible as his very firstwriting prize in the fourth grade. His father, an editor and co-owner of a New Yorknewspaper, guided him in developing his skills, and under that influence, his writing steadilyprogressed. His forte became short stories, one of which-The Boat Ticket-won first place in acontest held by his university. However, his writing was essentially paused when he enteredthe Navy and went on to complete a 20-year military career. During that time, he wrote onlya few articles for local newspapers, including one on the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67)departing its Norfolk homeport for Philadelphia permanently.Upon retiring from the service, he returned to writing and completed three shortstories, all of which he entered into the 2024 Lorian Hemingway Short Story Contest: Niniand Connor: The Tale of the Hawk, a children's story; The Gray Soldier, a ghost story; andAda, a science fiction story. Ada earned an Honorable Mention in the internationalcompetition. All three stories are set in the town of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
