Synopsis
Growing up as the son of a poor dock worker in China, Lee Chang never thought he’d be where he is today: an internationally recognized PhD psychologist about to wed a smart, beautiful Italian medical doctor, Anna, after completing a three-year effort supporting the World Health Organization’s COVID relief efforts. But this changes in an instant as his fiancée pulls him from the boarding line at the airport with shocking news.
An hour later the flight he would have been on crashes into the Alps. Lee and Ann flee for their safety learning that he was the target of the sabotage. The knowledge he gained initiating one of China’s most successful and clandestine intelligence operations against the United States more than a decade ago cannot be allowed to fall into foreign hands. Lee must be stopped at all costs.
He thought that his life’s work to define Martin Luther King’s “Content of Their Character” would help people make better choices in life. Instead his government is using the knowledge to exploit those of weak character to undermine their own society. At first, Lee was flattered that his work was being taken seriously by his government. It took years for Lee to fully understand the extent of their misuse of his academic work. By then, he had fallen in love with an Italian medical doctor, Anna Valenti, who worked with him on a multi-year international effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Disenchanted by his situation in China, Lee proposed to Anna with a plan to leave his work in China and start a family with Anna in Italy. Unfortunately, he found that starting a new life would not be as easy as he thought.
