A Picture Book About Honesty, Lying, and Telling the Truth
It starts like a normal day — the kind where nothing seems out of place, until something small happens and suddenly it does not feel small at all.
In There’s a Moose in My Attic, a child learns what can happen when something feels too big to face and is left unspoken, slowly growing into something harder to ignore. Before long, there is a moose in the attic, and pretending it is not there stops working.
This picture book about honesty and lying takes a quiet, thoughtful look at how children experience overwhelming feelings, especially when they are hiding something or unsure how to tell the truth. It does not rush past the discomfort, but stays with the moment long enough to show how things begin to shift when something is finally said out loud.
As the moose grows, so do the feelings: the weight of hiding the truth, the fear of getting in trouble, and the sense that something isn’t quite right. Through this story, children begin to understand why honesty matters and how telling the truth can bring relief.
Told with warmth and subtle humor, this story that teaches honesty helps children understand what is happening inside them without feeling corrected or dismissed.
For parents, educators, and therapists, it offers a natural way to begin conversations about honesty, trust, and how to help kids not lie without shame or fear.
At its core, this is a picture book about telling the truth and what changes when something big no longer has to be carried alone.
