O.L. Gilbert studied elementary education, music, and theology and is a retired nurse. Gilbert describes herself as an impassioned writer, optimistic visionary, and world changer who loves to compose words and use storytelling that can inspire, heal, entertain, and impact in positive and thought-provoking ways. She credits her mother, a former schoolteacher, and life experience as reasons for her love of words and storytelling.

Gilbert is the mother of one son. She has four stepchildren and three grandchildren and currently resides in rural North Carolina with her husband and two dogs. Gilbert enjoys writing, drawing, and watching nature and science documentaries. When she takes a break from creative expression on paper, Gilbert she enjoys tending her small vegetable and flower garden or creating make-believe worlds, like working on her model train layouts--activities that bring her joy and lots of creative inspiration.
