Synopsis
Baseball season is days away, but something is wrong at Wrigley Field. Ron Geith - the trusted keeper of the ballpark's legendary manual scoreboard - has vanished.
The only clue is a blood-stained metal number left behind.
For retired law-enforcement officer Ace Preston, Ron is more than a friend. He is the man who first revealed the scoreboard's impossible secret: its number openings can become windows into the past - and doors that allow a traveler to step directly into history.
Ace returns to Chicago determined to find him. What begins as a missing-person investigation soon draws him through jazz clubs, old city landmarks, hidden clues, and the scoreboard's darkest corners. The trail reaches all the way back to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 - and to a man whose vendetta refuses to stay buried in the past.
With Opening Day approaching and the danger closing in on Wrigley, Ace must uncover what happened to Ron, stop a threat that can move through time, and keep history from igniting all over again.
