Jackie L. Smith - known to most as Jack - is a retired United States Navy veteran whose service spanned two decades, from 1959 to 1979. He went to sea aboard aircraft carriers, crossed the Atlantic for hunter-killer training with the Sixth Fleet, served with helicopter squadrons, and traveled to ports from Boston to Quebec City to the Mediterranean. While on active duty he earned a bachelor's degree from Chaminade University in Honolulu and later a master's degree from Central Michigan University. After retiring from the Navy he spent eight years running a specialized hospital for the State of Oklahoma, then served another twenty years as a civilian with the United States Air Force, retiring in 2009 after more than four decades of public service.He began writing novels in his eighties.What started as a single book has become ten - thrillers, family crime stories, time-travel adventures, and portal fantasies. His novels draw on the institutional life he knew firsthand: the chains of command, the loyalty between brothers in arms, the quiet weight of doing the right thing when it costs you something.
