Synopsis

Your company is already running AI. It is not running AI governance.

Marketing is drafting copy in ChatGPT. Procurement is piloting agents that can place orders. Your software vendors have embedded AI in systems you approved years ago. None of it waited for a policy. And the gap between what your company has deployed and what it can actually oversee is where your real risk lives: the next recall, the next data leak, the next regulatory finding.

THE GOVERNED ENTERPRISE is a working playbook for the executives accountable when AI acts on its own — the CIO, the General Counsel, the VP of Operations, the CFO. Written by a thirty-year enterprise technology leader with deep experience in consumer goods manufacturing environments, it translates AI governance out of the compliance binder and onto the plant floor, the co-manufacturer contract, and the board agenda.

This is not a book about slowing AI down. It is about deploying it reliably enough to extend its authority, capture the value at scale, and keep the trust of the retailers, regulators, and consumers who make the business possible.

Inside, you will find:

  • How to give an agentic AI real spending authority without writing a blank check — circuit breakers, kill switches, and spend authority matrices built for supply chains, not slide decks
  • Why undeclared allergens become an AI problem the moment a co-manufacturer substitutes an ingredient, and how to govern the vendors operating on your behalf
  • What the Samsung data leak and the Knight Capital collapse teach every CPG leader before they authorize their next deployment
  • A maturity model to locate exactly where your organization stands on AI risk today
  • Specific next steps at the close of every chapter — written to be acted on this quarter, not admired
The regulatory timeline is set. The liability is already in court. Build the governance capability now, while it is still a competitive choice rather than a crisis response.

Governance is not the cost of being responsible. It is how you win.

À propos de l'auteur

Robin Horstmann is a technology leader in consumer packaged goods, currently implementing agentic AI for accounting and manufacturing and building the foundations it runs on. Her background is in the systems a company depends on: ERP implementation and recovery, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, CRM, MES, and warehouse and transportation management. That work has run inside consumer goods for twenty years, which is why the controls get built with the system rather than bolted on after it. The categories behind it are packaged food, pet food, wellness products, licensed apparel, and home textiles. Those five categories answer to four regulatory regimes. Pet food answers to AAFCO. Packaged food answers to FDA under FSMA. Wellness sits between FTC substantiation and an FDA drug claim. Licensed apparel carries contractual and intellectual property obligations food does not. That range is why The Governed Enterprise treats compliance as an operating problem rather than a legal appendix. While earning the IAPP's Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional credential, she looked for a governance reference written for consumer goods and found only frameworks built for banks, insurers, and general enterprise. She wrote the playbook afterward. Her certifications cover AI governance (AIGP), AI security (AAISM), risk and IT controls (CRISC), information security (CISM), data privacy (CDPSE), and delivery (PMP).
